If you join us, you’ll find we are an inclusive, supportive but ambitious community, absolutely centred on the success of our students. Every one of us is proud to be part of ÃÀ¼§¸ó, proud of our students and what they achieve and proud of our long heritage of fighting for social change.
We celebrate our 180th anniversary in 2020, having welcomed our first students in 1840 in London as an Anglican institution for training teachers. We have always been committed to the transformational power of education, ensuring that everyone with the ability to achieve through education can have the opportunity to succeed.
The University is an exciting place to work. For 180 years our staff and students have challenged the status quo and looked for new ways to improve the world. Now together, every day, we help students to build a vibrant future for themselves. See the MarjonGrowth Plan for more about this.
Our latest staff survey showed that 94% of staff feel the University is a good place to work, and 93% feel proud to work here. 94% of staff say they identify with our Values – so it’s worth checking if you would too.

Thinking of applying to ÃÀ¼§¸ó? Here are some key facts:
1. We are a small, campus based University, based in Plymouth in the South West of England.
2. We are in a spectacular location, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and with sweeping views of the sea and the hills of Devon and Cornwall.
3. We were the first teacher training institution, established in London in 1838.
4. We are ranked the top University in England for social inclusion (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023). The principles of widening participation and encouraging opportunities for all run deep in every Marjonmember of staff.
5. Students tell us our secret is our friendliness. We bring out the best in them through strong relationships and amazing support; understanding how they learn and what they want from their lives both intellectually and as a whole person.
If you like the sound of that then read more about working at ÃÀ¼§¸ó.

For you...
Each member of staff will have a Personal Development Review each year. In this you’ll agree your goals and what support you need to achieve them. You’ll be able to cover your ambitions and personal passions as well as discussing needs of the organisation. We firmly believe that playing to people’s strengths brings out the best in our people.
In order to maintain our high standards of teaching, new teaching staff without an existing teaching qualification are encouraged to undertake all or part of the PgCert in Learning and Teaching. More experienced staff can apply to Advance HE for fellowship. All members of staff will discuss their learning and development needs as part of their Personal Development Review.
For students...
We reflect this approach to personal improvement with students. Every student has a Personal Development Tutor to support them through their time with us. Their Personal Development Tutor works with them to develop their confidence, uncover hidden strengths, supports them through academic advice and signposts them to specific professional support services within the University. We also offer student colleague roles which broaden skills through real work experience. The aim is that our graduates leave us highly competent and confident employees, comfortable in their values and their strengths, and ready to enter the world of work and find roles which enable them to achieve the things which make them personally happy.
We hold a TEF Gold Award, the Social Enterprise Mark and a Mindful Employer accreditation. We are a Disability Confident Committed employer.
We run two main schemes: the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (for all academic staff) and the Local Government Pension Scheme (for all professional services staff). You may also be eligible for the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), subject to availability. Further pension benefits include immediate life cover for your beneficiaries if you die during service and (subject to eligibility) ill-health retirement benefits if you stop being able to work due to long-term illness.
We’re big believers in the importance of work/life balance. Many of our employees work flexibly and they are able to apply for parental leave and time off for dependants. Other benefits include:
