I have been a student ambassador since June 2023 and could not recommend it enough. Being a student ambassador, I feel a sense of responsibility to help inform the next generation of prospective MarjonStudents, and I do this by sharing my own positive experiences from my time at the university not only during lectures but also extracurricular activities and social events.
I am a second year Sports Journalism student and my favourite events to work are the aspirations days where we work closely with schools and colleges to give them a feel of what the course is like at Marjonand show them what a “day in the life of a journalism student” is really like.
These days have always provided an essential opportunity for prospective students to get a feel of university life and give an insight into a course / career they may have never considered before.
Finally, the scheme itself has provided me with some great work experience for my CV, whilst also offering flexible hours and a steady income whilst studying.
I have been a student ambassador for over 3 years, and it has been one of the best experiences of my university journey. The main benefits have been increased confidence to present at various events such as, postgrad welcome talks, gaining transferable skills which I have placed on my CV including teamwork and leadership.
Also, working as an SA has brought cohesion to my student life, offering a sense of belonging to the Marjonfamily which has enabled me to progress further in my studies by staying on to do my MRes and starting a Menopause Cafe on campus. Suffice to say it has been an integral part of my growing skill set which I will take into my future endeavours and employment.
Marjonis enthusiastic about its students, being a student ambassador gives us an opportunity to show our enthusiasm back. As a student ambassador, I have enjoyed being part of open days, campus tours, completed library training and I have also helped other student ambassadors join the team.
The role provides a wide range of opportunities, to enhance or use your skills, perfect for personal or professional development. I enjoy being able to meet potential students, and work with existing students from other courses, and to share my passion in promoting our university.
Being a student ambassador is great fun! Varied job roles plus you'll get to meet new people around campus. There are also Opportunities to develop your personal skills whilst feeling completed supported and empowered to do so. As a parent who is studying full time, being a student ambassador has given me the flexibility to work around academic and home life.
