Plymouth MarjonUniversity is cheering on its alumni and former students heading to the Paris 2024 Olympics today, ready to compete for a medal.
Former student and elite swimmer , alumni and rower , and Honorary Graduate and diver are all competing in this year’s Olympics, putting their athletic ability to the test.
Ben Proud
Ben studied at Plymouth Marjonin the mid 2010s on a BA (Hons) Sport Development and Coaching course before train at the Energy Standard International Swim Club in Turkey in 2017. Ben went on to compete internationally in the European Championships, Commonwealth Games and more, achieving an array of gold and silver medals.
Helen Glover
Helen graduated from the University in 2009 with a PGCE and went on to teach Secondary Physical Education before leaving to pursue her rowing dream. Helen has competed in countless national and international competitions, and will mark her fourth Olympics.
Tom Daley
Tom, born and bred in Plymouth, became a Plymouth MarjonUniversity Honorary Graduate in 2017, recognised for his outstanding contribution to sport and role in inspiring students and members of the wider community. This will be Tom’s fifth Olympic Games.
The athletes have inspired many Marjonstudents after them who, supported by a MarjonSport Performance Scholarship, train hard in the hopes of reaching their own Olympic goals.
Plymouth Marjonsupports aspiring athletes and elite sportspeople through education, delivering programmes in Sport Development and Coaching, Sport and Exercise Science, Sport Rehabilitation and Conditioning, and more. Students can train to understand their own and others’ performance, enabling them to explore careers in professional sport, competition, coaching and therapy.
